Ronald Lee Thomas, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on December 22, 2025.
Ron was born on November 22, 1946, in Ogden, Utah to Ralph “Buzz” and Carole Moffitt Thomas. He was the second of four children and grew up in Clearfield surrounded by family, sports, and good friends that influenced his life.
Ron married Sharon Gaye Bogardus and they had 2 daughters; they were later divorced. On April 23, 1975, Ron married Julie Dezember, in Ogden, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 2002. Together they have three children. Ron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, all of whom brought him great joy.
Ron graduated from Clearfield High School in 1965, where he excelled in sports. Following high school, he joined the Army Reserves and later transferred to the Air Force Reserves, where he retired after 40 years of service in 2006. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 36 years with the Department of Defense. Ron also worked as a barber at the NCO Club on HAFB in his earlier years.
Ron found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching the Utah Jazz and LA Rams, especially while enjoying a bowl of ice cream. His dog, Libbee, was his pride and joy and constant companion. After retirement, Ron loved to spend his time supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ron and Julie were members of the NUGS-Good Sams Club, where they enjoyed camping, monthly dinners, and formed many lifelong friendships. They also enjoyed trips to Wendover, cruising and traveling. In his later years Ron reconnected with a group of old high school friends and enjoyed getting together weekly. Above all else, Ron was always willing to help and do anything for his family. His kindness, reliability, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ron is survived by his wife Julie Thomas; his children Cindy Culley (Ryan), Nikki Thomas, Jennie Hambin (Rory), Mike Thomas, and Trisha Kunzler (Darin); his brother Gary Thomas; his sister Cheryl Simmons (Gaylen); and sister-in-law Debbie Thomas; brother-in-law Tim Dezember (VeDean) and sister-in-law Christine Hall
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph “Buzz” and Carole Thomas, and his brother Roger Thomas.
We love you so much Dad, you will be missed!
Private graveside services will be held at the Syracuse City Cemetery on January 7, 2026.
