Listen to Obituary

Roger Lee Drown passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, Utah, at the age of 78. Roger was born on June 16, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Glen and Marie Drown. He grew up in Hunter (now West Valley City) as the oldest of five children.

Roger graduated from Cyprus High School in 1965 and later from Weber State University in 1979. His love of music began early—he started guitar lessons at age 12 and played in a high school rock band, The Squires. The group performed at local dances and weddings and even appeared on television as part of the opening of a weekly Salt Lake City show.

From July 1966 to August 1968, Roger served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North British Mission. Shortly after returning home, he met his future wife, Carolyn, in January 1969. That same year he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was inducted in May 1969 for two years of service.

Roger and Carolyn were married on June 10, 1970, in the Logan Utah LDS Temple while he was home on military leave. They then moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, where Roger was stationed at Fort Sill. He later received orders for Korea and served there until May 1971.

Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished every moment spent with his three daughters and his grandchildren. Whether he was taking them to local parks, feeding the ducks, enjoying picnics, gathering for Sunday dinners, or playing their favorite card game—Garbage—he found joy in being with his family.

Roger retired in August 2010 after 41 years of dedicated service with the Federal Government at various installations. Following retirement, he and Carolyn embraced a new adventure together, purchasing touring bicycles and spending several years riding trails throughout Davis and Weber Counties. Roger was a lifelong “fix-it-yourself” kind of man who was always repairing, building, or installing something. He loved taking pictures and was often found behind the camera at family gatherings and special events. Known for his kindness, hard work, and willingness to help anyone in need, Roger touched countless lives with his gentle, caring nature.

A faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roger served in many church and priesthood leadership callings throughout his life.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his daughters Melanie Sanders (Darrin), Angela Crookston (Matthew), and Katrina Drown; and seven cherished grandchildren: Kersten, Trevor, and Conner Sanders, and Lexi, Addie, Ellie, and Harrison Crookston. He is also survived by his mother, Marie Drown, age 100; his sisters Susan Hansen (Bill) and Kris Nickel (Steve); and his brother Randy (Carrie) Drown.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glen D. Drown; his brother, Glen Jones Drown; and his grandchildren, Emery Lynn Crookston and Benson Roger Crookston.
