Roger Einar Anderson, 88, a longtime resident of Pleasant View, Utah, passed away on December 29, 2024, at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home after a brief illness.
Roger was born March 20, 1936, in Melrose Park, Illinois, the only child of Arthur and Lillian (Edfors) Anderson. He attended Proviso Township High School in Maywood, Illinois and graduated in 1954. Following high school, Roger went to Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, graduating as a Mathematics major in 1958. While attending Augustana, Roger was active on campus and participated in the Swedish Club, Math Club, Alpha Phi Omega Boy Scout Service Fraternity, the Viking Swim Team, and the Gamma Alpha Beta Social Fraternity.
He was a proud military veteran and was an active-duty officer in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He also served in the Illinois Air National Guard and Utah Air National Guard for many years. He moved to Utah from Illinois in 1973 and enjoyed the outdoor activities the state had to offer, including skiing, camping, and fishing. In his later years, Roger frequented the North View Senior Center in North Ogden.
Roger was a career pilot and worked for Airlift International, Transamerica Airlines, and Southern Air Transport. Roger loved sharing his flying stories, which included working for the CIA during his time with Southern Air, his many trips all over the world and piloting his favorite airplane, the C-130 Hercules.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Joan Lazzell (Joe Seniw); and granddaughters, Sydney Butler (Austin) and Nicole Lazzell. He is also survived by his first wife, Diane Cooke.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
