Robert Rohr passed away on March 27, 2012 in Bountiful. He was born April 9, 1924 to parents Joseph L. and Julia McKnight Rohr in Detroit Michigan. He married Marjorie Horie on March 29, 1954 in Livonia, Michigan. She passed away in 1968. He was reared and educated in Detroit and had lived in Denver before moving to Utah in 1969.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the 81st Seabees, participating in D-Day at Omaha Beach. After being discharged from the Navy in 1946, he enlisted in the Army with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team in Korea. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran. The Army re-activated him during the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympics to serve in Security for the games. He was awarded many medals and decorations, including two Presidential Unit Citations; one Navy, one Army and a Navy Commendation Medal. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1964 as a Chief Warrant Officer.
An avid athlete, Bob was a pitcher on the Army baseball team and also a weight lifter with the U.S. Navy team. His passion was golfing and he was a scratch golfer, turning professional in 1959. He was the assistant pro at Hill Top Country Club in Plymouth, Michigan in 1960, later regaining amateur standing in 1965. His golfing career boasted of 10 "holes in one" and one double eagle.
He was a member of St. Joseph''s Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member and past Commander of the American Legion. He enjoyed helping others and served as a senior companion with Davis County Aging Services for many years.
He is survived by his sweetheart and partner Gwen Cauthon, North Salt Lake; sons Robert (Paula) Rohr, Kaysville, UT, Jeff (Janice) Rohr, Boise ID; daughter, Ann (Scott) Vance, Farmington, UT; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a brother, Richard F. (Joan) Rohr from Indian River, MI. Preceded in death by 3 brothers, one sister, and a grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful where friends may visit with the family from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the memorial. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
