Robert LeRoy McMillan

August 6, 1934 — June 16, 2025

Robert LeRoy McMillan of Fruit Heights, Utah, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the age of 90. Robert was born on 6 August 1934, to Parley LeRoy McMillan and Florence Johnson in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Robert grew up in the Murray and Mount Olympus Cove area of Salt Lake City. Beginning in his childhood, he was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hike, fish, backpack, and spend time exploring the mountains along the Wasatch Front as well as Uintah mountains of Utah. One of his favorite places to fish was Fish Lake, Utah, he spent time there each year during his youth and later instilled a special love of that area among his children and grandchildren.

Robert, as an only child, sought companionship of those around him. He was very happy to find many wonderful friends whose friendships have continued throughout his life. He graduated from Granite High School and the University of Utah, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Robert served a two-year mission in the Central Atlantic States from 1954-1956. Following his mission, he served for several years in the National Guard.

Robert met his sweetheart Becky at Bear Lake, UT, where he was in charge of a group of boys from the church Lambda Delta Sigma Fraternity from the University of Utah. Becky had gone to help the girls, also from a church sorority group, by providing transportation of their supplies. Robert had his fishing boat at the lake, and was keen to give the girls rides in the boat and let them water ski. He later spoke in the Sunday Sacrament meeting at Bear Lake, where Becky was quite impressed with his talk. Robert later called Becky for a date and the romance began. The couple was sealed for time and eternity on August 14, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Robert and Becky raised their seven children in Midvale, and Fruit Heights, Utah, and made lifelong friends in both areas. Robert served in many church callings, including as first bishop of the Fruit Heights 4 th Ward.

After Robert retired from his accounting profession, he and Becky received a call to serve a Church Education System mission in Springfield, Missouri. Their mission experiences in Missouri were wonderful. They truly loved the young adults that they served and the members they worked with. Robert was an incredibly dedicated, kind, loving and hard-working husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be truly missed by those that knew him.

Robert was preceded in death by his sons, John and Joseph, and is survived by his wife and eternal companion, Becky Jean Jensen McMillan, daughter-in-law Lori West, son Mark and (Kate) McMillan of Kaysville, UT, daughter Elizabeth and (Mark) Peterson of Athens, GA, son Aaron and (Jenny) McMillan of West Jordan, UT, daughter Carol and (Sam) Cheney, of Fruit Heights, UT, son James and (Kira) McMillan, of Doha, Qatar, 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
