Robert Warner Hatfield (Tech Sergeant, United States Air Force Retired)
Robert Warner Hatfield (TSgt, USAF Ret), age 55, of Layton, Utah, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on March 30, 2026. He was born on June 4, 1970, in Wichita, Kansas, to Billy Hatfield and Barbara Howard Hatfield.
Robert deeply loved and doted on his mother, Barbara, and cherished his close bond with his older sister, Leigh Ann. He truly loved and was immensely proud of his nephews, Robert and Ryan and took great joy in their lives and accomplishments.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1990 until his retirement in 2010. During his twenty-year career, he was stationed in Spain, served in Desert Storm, and was assigned to bases in North Dakota, Iceland, South Korea (DMZ), Italy, and Utah. He carried the values of duty, honor, and service throughout his life.
After retiring from the Air Force, Robert found deep fulfillment working with young people. He was a dedicated mentor who loved teaching the next generation the importance of good citizenship, strong work ethic, and compassion for others. The crew at Wendy’s on SR-193 held a special place in his heart, and he took great pride in guiding and encouraging them.
Robert had a sharp mind and a lifelong passion for learning. He loved politics and thrived on lively political debates. An avid reader, he devoured books and documentaries about historically significant events, world religions, the Earth, and its diverse inhabitants. His curiosity about the world was boundless.
In recent years, Robert found peace and purpose through his conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was baptized in August 2024.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Billy Hatfield (CMSgt, USAF Ret), and all of his grandparents. He is survived by his loving mother Barbara; his sister Leigh Ann (Lewis); and his nephews Robert and Ryan, whom he cherished.
Funeral services and interment at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in Robert’s memory to a local youth mentoring program.
