Robert Anson Call

March 8, 1932 — July 18, 2024

Robert Anson Call faithfully completed his earthly mission and returned home to his Father in Heaven on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born on March 8 1932, to Willis and Alice Isabel Call in Ogden, Utah.

He graduated from Ogden High School where he excelled in several sports and was an exceptional athlete. He attended Weber State College, and furthered his education at Utah State University and received his Masters of Art Degree.

Dad served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Gregory. While he was stationed in Guam, Robert was asked to play on the Navy's Agana Flyers team during the Navy-Air Force All-Star game. While on the team he broke the record in the military baseball throw with an amazing toss of 373 feet.

Dad met the love of his life Donna Kay Beckman at a church dance. They fell in love and were married on August 15, 1953, and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised three children, David, Brett, and Shanna.

Dad taught art at Wahlquist Jr. High and Bonneville High School where he was also the golf coach retiring in 1998. During the summer months, dad worked as a lifeguard at Rainbow Gardens and would also work at Snowbasin on Saturdays so his children could ski for free. Dad was a talented artist and won numerous best of show awards in art competitions throughout the state. He enjoyed spending time at Studio 9 with his fellow artist's. He also worked at Golf City for many years as a golf instructor; he was an avid golfer and had many dear golfing buddies.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served wherever he was asked. They also served as the LDS coordinating couple at Manor Care and later at Pineview Rehab Center. In addition, they served as missionaries for five years at the LDS Conference Center in Salt Lake.

Dad loved nothing more than spending time with his family, Bear Lake being one of his favorite places to go, he enjoyed being at the beach and swimming in the lake. He knew no strangers, and everyone was a friend welcoming them unconditionally. People always gravitated to him, and he welcomed you with a genuine interest and would make you feel like you were instantly his friend.

Art was his passion and he loved sharing it with his new friends at Legacy House. He was known for his humor and mischievous smile. He loved music and had an emotional connection to it; many songs would bring him to tears, with the song Sweet Caroline being one of his favorites. He was also very gifted at playing piano and guitar by ear.

Dad's absence will leave an enormous void in our lives, and he'll be greatly missed, we are comforted to know that we will be reunited with him some day.

Robert is survived by his children, David R. (Julie) Call, Brett E. Call; Shanna C. (Brett) Moyes, all of the Ogden area; 11 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; and his sister in-law, Sharon Tomlinson, of South Ogden. He was preceded in death by his sweet wife and eternal companion, Donna; and his parents.
