Listen to Obituary

Rita George passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 1, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Rita was born in Ogden, Utah on April 30, 1946, to Oren and Marie Anderson. She spent her early childhood years in Park City, Utah, when it was still a mining town. She later moved with her family to Layton, Utah.

She married Raymond “Rick” Thorne on April 30, 1960, in Kaysville, Utah; they were married for 19 years and had one son and two daughters. She later married William “Bill” George on November 20, 1981, in Layton, Utah.

Rita was a kind-hearted woman who was loved by all those who had the privilege to know her.

In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, as well as fishing and camping at Lake Powell where she vacationed every year.

Rita had an exemplary 30-year career in civil service at Fort Carson Army Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Hill Airforce Base in Layton, Utah. She was very efficient in whatever position she held and was awarded with several commendations for her hard work.

Rita is survived by her son, Ron Thorne (Shari) of Colorado Springs, CO; her daughters, Rickie Skaggs-Hoaglan (Ralph) of Commerce City, CO; and Renee Gardner (Tony) of North Ogden, UT; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) George; her parents; three brothers; John, David, and Ray; one sister; Maurine; grandson, Steven Thorne; granddaughter-in-law, Natalia Cebulski; and her two cats, Spunky and Katie, whom she loved immensely.

From her children: Ron, Rickie, & Renee
Good-bye Mama; until we meet again.
We love you and hold you, dearly, in our hearts until then.
