Richard F. Straley 1935 a" 2012
OGDEN a" Richard Frederick Straley, 76, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2012. Richard was born December 16, 1935 in Youngstown, Ohio. He is no longer in pain.
Richard''s biggest passion in life was his music. He played the saxophone in many bands throughout the years. When he joined the Army in 1959, he was put in the military band for the duration of the Army. After the service, he followed his brother Bill, to Utah and lived the rest of his life there. He worked for the US Bureau of Reclamation and then H.A.F.B. until his retirement in 1993.
He played in many bands around the country and the Junction City Big Band in Ogden for many years. Over the years, he met many of the great musicians and heard so many of the Big Bands of the era. He was a very well respected musician.
After retirement, he just enjoyed staying home and working around the yard and looking forward to the next time he would play with the band. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter of just about everything. He also had a love of all animals and they seemed to know it. He loved being in the outdoors. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2919 and the American Legion Post #134.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen; one brother, Bill; two daughters, Joy Oram and Dawn Straley. He has two natural grandsons, Mitch and TJ and a natural great-granddaughter, Tayah. He was very loving to Kathleen''s daughters, Geena Peek and Leisa Lamb. They gave him three more grandsons, Brad, A.J. and Carson and one granddaughter, Nicole.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
