Richard Steed

Richard Arnold Steed, 74, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at his home, on Friday, May 20, 2016.

He was born on May 25, 1941, the son of Thomas Joseph and Ellen Louise Miller Steed.

He graduated from Davis High School and served in the LDS Alaskan Canadian Mission from 1961-1963.

His lifetime dream of revisiting his mission with his sweet wife was fulfilled this past September.

He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Bennington and was very proud to be an American.

He married his sweetheart, Sharon Ross on March 22, 1968, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they have 4 children.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions including his favorites of executive secretary, home teacher, and greeter.

He worked for Davis County School District as a custodian for 30 years.

He was a man of little words, but expressed his love and feelings through actions. His greatest love was his family, traveling to Disneyland, driving through Yellowstone National Park, and he was happiest when attending his children's and grandchildren's performances, recitals, and games. His body didn't always cooperate as he wanted during the final years of his life, but his face beamed with happiness and joy when he saw his family enter the room. He was an avid sports fan always cheering on his BYU Cougars and Utah Jazz.

He is survived by his incredible wife who selflessly cared for him everyday for years, his children Michele and John Flinders, Cedar Hills, Brent and Lisa Steed, Syracuse, Angie and Chad Poll, Syracuse, and Thomas and Allison Steed, West Point, and his grandchildren, Marissa and Kimball, Megan, Tyson, Daryn, Spencer, Alivia, Madison, Justin, Kelsey, Kambry, Carter, Derek, Rian, Brooke and Katelyn. He is also survived by his siblings, Ordith and Barbara Bourgeous, Allan and Kaye Steed, Sharon Steed, Steven and Judy Steed, and Ed and Helen Smedley. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Eloise and Carolyn, brother Grant, and granddaughter Amanda.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at the Jupiter Hills Ward Chapel, 3267 W. 700 S. Syracuse.

Friends may visit family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Layton and Wednesday from 9:30 to10:30 a.m. at the church.
