Richard James Smith

November 19, 1936 - October 30, 2021

Richard J. “Dick” Smith, 84, was called home by our Father-in-Heaven on Saturday, October 30, 2021 to reunite with his sweetheart. Born November 19, 1936 to Howard and Margaret Smith in Moorhead, Minnesota, he was a source of joy and inspiration to all that knew him.

Dick married the love of his life, Janae Moorhead on January 10, 1964 in Ogden, Utah and together raised four children. Education was important to him as he put himself through college and obtained a Masters Degree in Logistics. He always encouraged his children and grandchildren to get their education. Dick retired from Hill Air Force Base after many years of service.

His family was the most important thing to Dick and he always put them first. He loved to spend time in the mountains with his family throwing horseshoes, fishing, or sitting around the campfire. He spent a lot of his later years driving around northern Utah between swap meets and pawn shops.

Dick is survived by his children, Leisa (Doug) Sandoz, O’Fallon, MO; David (Michelle) Smith, Perry; Craig Smith, Sunset; and Kristy (Dan) Putnam, Layton; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother Cal.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
