Listen to Obituary

Richard Lamar Hansen passed February 22, 2026, in St. George, Utah from the ravages of Parkinsons Disease. He was born on January 20, 1939, to Orsen Hansen and Eva Allan in Springville, Utah.

He graduated from Springville High School Class of 1957 where he was the Senior Class President. He loved the class reunions that allowed him to reconnect with his classmates.

He valued honesty, integrity, and hard work. He started working at a young age at the Pea Vinery in Springville. That’s where he learned all about hard work. Through high school he worked at a gas station. Through his college years he worked construction which gave him the drive to complete his college degree – no more physical labor! He graduated from the University of Utah in 1962 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His first job was in Seattle, Washington working for Boeing Aircraft.

In July of 1962 he married Janet Sue Rowland. From this union came a daughter Jenae Miller (Jeff) of Logan and one son Shawn (Matt Peterborg) of Salt Lake City. Then came along four grandchildren, Jane, Emily and Chase Miller and JayDen Peterborg. He loved being a grandpa and watching them grow, learning new things and helping them where he could. Even though their marriage didn’t last they remained friends.

A second marriage brought another daughter Sheri Hansen Johnson (Wally) of San Jose, CA.

And then third time was the charm. In January of 1987, he married Sandy Morse Hansen. From this union came lots of love, laughter, golf and precious Kodak moments. Enough to last a lifetime. His death has killed me – but his life inspired me to be a better person.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sandy; his children, Jenae (Jeff) Miller, Shawn (Matt Peterborg), and Sheri Johnson (Wally); four grandchildren; sister, colleen Schrader of Springville, UT; brothers, Boyd Hansen (Judy) of Elkridge, UT and John (Sharon) of Fillmore, UT; sisters-in-law, Judie Reese of Ogden, UT, Kay Richins of Liberty, UT, and Dixie Morse of Clinton and St. George, UT.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dwain Hansen; and sister, Dorothy Ivie.

The family would like to thank Dixie Hospice for their loving and tender care during his last two weeks.
