Reed Shepherd

Reed Lavoy ( R.L.) Shepherd 84, son of Fredrick Reed Shepherd and Marie Clayson was born November 10, 1931, in Lake Shore, Utah.  He passed away Monday May, 9, 2016 at his home in Syracuse.

He was the 2nd of 5 children with two sisters and two brothers.  He was raised in Lake Shore, and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1950.  Soon after graduation, he served a 2 1/2 year Mission for the LDS Church in Denmark, from 1951-1953.  After returning from his mission, he helped on the family farm until he was called to serve his country in the United States Armed Forces. He was sent to Germany to help rebuild the Country after World War II.   He served well and was released in September 1956.

He returned home and soon met his Eternal Sweetheart Virginia Stevens and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 27, 1957.  Together they are the parents of 11 children, who have been the light and love of his life.  He attended Utah Trade Tech in Provo for some time studying Farm Mechanics, which helped him in his life and love of farming.

In their 59 years together they have lived in Lake Shore, Utah, Genola Utah, Solvang and Buellton, California, Kenilworth, Utah, and Col. Juarez, Chih Mexico, where they made many friends and worked together in many endeavors.  They now reside in Syracuse, Utah.

R.L. Served faithfully in any callings extended to him.  He served and loved others even when not asked.  He saw a need and took action.  He loved to work hard and humbly did his best at whatever he did.  He left a legacy of kindness, forgiveness and Christ-like love.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, children: David (Sherri) Shepherd, Cheyenne, OK; Lavoy (Angie) Shepherd, Veyo, UT, Elva (Gene) Parker, Mesa, AZ; Robert (Cindy) Shepherd, Delta, UT; Philip (Lisa) Shepherd, Provo, UT; Rae Ann (Jim) Davis, Henderson, NV; Merlin (Julyn) Shepherd, Spanish Fork, UT; Tami (Ken) Colyar, Moab, UT;  Rita (Kyle) Harvey, Syracuse, UT; Fred (Melanie) Shepherd, Las Cruces, NM; 52 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, Corey Lynn, his parents, a brother, Jess and a sister, Shirley Marie.

Funeral services will be held Monday May 16, 2016 at 11 am at the Spanish Fork East Stake Center, 1150 E. 1240 S. Spanish Fork, Utah.  Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Spanish Fork City Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
