Rebecca Lynne Porter

LAYTON – Rebecca Lynne Porter passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the age of 36, after persevering through chronic illness for many years. Becky was born in Big Spring, Texas on November 3, 1975. She was the second of four daughters born to Myron J. Porter and Suzanne Porter. Becky lived in Texas, Utah, and Alberta, Canada. In 1982 Becky understood her need for a personal relationship with God and believed in Jesus Christ as her savior making a commitment to follow after Christ as a born-again believer. During college as Becky continued to grow in her faith in Christ she answered God’s call to serve Him in the ministry. Becky earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwest Texas State University and a Master of Arts and Communication Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Becky’s passion was sharing the love and truth of Christ with everyone, especially college students. She served as a Baptist campus minister at both West Virginia and Utah State Universities. Becky also loved media and technology and worked to use media to help spread God’s Word to those who do not know Him. Becky, in spite of her own health struggles, was tremendously compassionate and developed deep friendships throughout her life. Becky most recently served as administrative assistant for the Golden Spike Baptist Association. She is survived by her parents Dr. Myron J. Porter and Suzanne Porter, her older sister Jenny Chandler and brother-in-law Thomas Chandler, niece Emily Chandler and nephew Stephen Chandler, her younger sisters Debbie Porter and Mandy Porter. Becky was deeply grateful for the support, encouragement, friendship and professional care of Dr. Kevin Duke of Providence, Utah, Dr. Harry Hill of the University of Utah, Dr. Clyde Faucett of McKay Dee Hospital and healthcare nurses Wendy, Melinda, Joanne and Kim and all of the staff of Coram Specialty Infusion Services. Our family extends thanks for helping provide Becky with the highest quality of life possible.
