Rebecca Ence Cummens, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, surrounded by family who cherished her deeply.
Born on March 30, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Rebecca’s life was marked by compassion, resilience, and unwavering love. She carried a quiet strength that lifted those around her, and she gave of herself freely whether through a listening ear, a warm meal, or the simple grace of her presence.
Rebecca was the heart of her family. She raised her children with patience and fierce devotion, teaching them the values of kindness, honesty, and perseverance. She treasured her grandchildren, who brought her joy and laughter in her later years, and she passed on to them the same gentle spirit that defined her life.
Rebecca was also a devoted teacher, deeply loved and respected by her students and community alike. Her classroom was more than a place of learning, it was a place of encouragement, warmth, and belonging. She gave tirelessly of herself to ensure that every student felt valued and capable. The impact of her dedication will live on in countless lives, well beyond the walls of her classroom.
Beyond her family and her teaching, Rebecca touched many lives. She will be remembered for her generosity, her humor, and her ability to make every person feel seen and valued. Her legacy is one of love: enduring, unconditional, and unforgettable.
Rebecca is survived by her sons and their families, who were the joy of her life:
Briant Edward, once married to Heather, is the father of five children: David (married to Sharon), Nathaniel (married to ), Matthew, Katherine, and Becca. He is now married to Jacoba who has two children, Cece and Zoe, who have been a cherished part of the family.
Aaron Bret was first married to Colleen and later to Heather. He is the father of two children, Kaisha Eryn (married to Jerod Gibson) and Taylor Bret, as well as three younger children with Heather, Kelsey Alta, Lindsey Aspen, and Spencer Alpine.
Troy Nephi, formerly married to Nancy, is the father of three children: Wyatt, Sophia, and Simone. He is now with Destiny, who brings two daughters of her own, Abby and Selene) expanding the circle of family love even further.
Rebecca is also survived by her siblings, Bart Ence (married to Chris), Russell Ence (married to Susan), Nancy Peterson (married to Dee, deceased), and Brian Ence (married to Christine).
She is also remembered with love by her parents, Kendall and Robena Ence, who now welcome her home in heaven.
Services to honor Rebecca’s life will be held on September 20, 2025, at 2 p.m. at 77 South Orchard Drive, Kaysville, Utah. Former students, friends and loved ones are invited to attend and celebrate the remarkable woman she was.
