Ralph R. Sampson

April 30, 1938 - July 30, 2025

It is with deep love and tender remembrance that we announce the passing of Ralph Sampson, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on July 30, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on April 30, 1938, in Ogden, Utah, to Eliot Sampson and Elaine Revell, Ralph lived a life marked by humor, dedication, and faith. He was one of five children, including Jim, Paul, Mark, and Ruth. A brilliant student, Ralph received his bachelor's degree from Utah State University, where he was honored to be named as USU's "Outstanding Engineer" in Electrical Engineering. During his time at USU, he led the design of an analog computer for Utah Water Research. Ralph went on to study at Columbia and Massachusetts Institute of Technology to attain his master's in engineering. Shortly after, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves, where he discovered his passion for airplanes and flying, later earning his pilot's license, flying a Cessna 152 as his first plane. Ralph had many accomplishments during his career such as Vice President for McKesson, computerizing their entire distribution systems, and building his own business digitizing the stock market.

A lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ralph served multiple missions throughout his life. As a young man, he served in the North Central States mission. Later, he served two senior missions with his wife, Bonnie, in California and Colorado. In California, Ralph and Bonnie served 17 stakes, creating a community for the 12-step program. In the beginning, they had 12 attendees. Through diligent work and love for the Lord and people, they grew the program to over 2400 participants by the end of their mission. Ralph was a deeply spiritual, sensitive soul, and his testimony was evident in all that he did.

Ralph found much happiness in the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and would spend hours crafting the perfect fly. More than anything, he loved to travel with his wife, visiting much of the United States and Europe. Ralph adored his dogs, often spoiling them with love and attention. Additionally, some of his greatest joys came from spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved so very much. Whether building and racing pinewood derby cars, playing card games, cheering on at countless performances and sporting events, boating at Jordanelle Reservoir, or filling up the net and being a rowdy fish at "Fish Pond", "Papa" was a constant source of laughter and unconditional love.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Bonnie, children: Trina, Tamra (Jeff), Kent (Shari), Scott (Kristin), Brent (Isabel), Sharon, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of faith, curiosity, and kindness. He also leaves behind extended family members, dear friends, and all those who were blessed to know him.

A funeral service will be held on August 11, 2025, at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary (727 N 400 E, Bountiful, UT 84010). The viewing will begin at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to spend a little extra time with your loved ones-go fishing, play a game, or watch "Gone with the Wind", just as Ralph would have done.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his shining example that will continue to guide and inspire us. We are comforted by the knowledge that families are forever and look forward to the day we are reunited again.
