Rachel Ellison Barlow Richardson passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. She had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Rachel was born in Ogden, Utah, on September 12, 1961, to Haven Jesse and Bonnie Rae Ellison Barlow. She was warmly welcomed home by her five older siblings: Jesselie, Heidi, Haven, Duncan, and Stewart. Rachel was raised in a very loving and supportive family in Layton, surrounded by cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rachel was a very special gift to the Barlow family. When she was 4 years old, she was blessed to be one of the early children to work with Dr. Agi Plenk at The Children’s Center in Salt Lake City. This began an almost 60-year relationship with The Children’s Center for Rachel and her family. Rachel introduced her family to the need for early childhood mental health treatment. The time spent at The Children’s Center changed Rachel’s life and that of her family.
The last event Rachel participated in was the ribbon cutting for a mural in her honor on the playground of The Children’s Center on November 4, 2024.
After attending The Children’s Center for four years, Rachel went on to attend E.M. Whiteside Elementary, Central Davis Jr. High, and Layton High Schools. She attended Weber State University and served a mission to Columbia, South Carolina, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rachel married Curtis Avery Richardson on June 22, 2002, in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Clearfield for 20 years and recently moved back to Layton.
Rachel always loved working with children and retired last year from Wasatch Elementary School in Clearfield after 32 years, where she was known and loved as Miss Rachel.
Rachel was an accomplished pianist and loved cats. Rachel and Curtis enjoyed going fishing and shopping in their spare time.
Rachel was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in the Primary and as a temple worker.
Rachel is survived by her husband, Curtis, her siblings, Jesselie B. Anderson (Scott), Heidi B. Harris (Ted), Haven J. Barlow Jr. (Amy), and Stewart E. Barlow (Marie), her father-in-law, Robert Richardson, her brothers-in-law, Greg and Phil Richardson, her aunt Carol E. Morgan, and her uncle Robert B. Anderson. She was dearly loved by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Haven J. and Bonnie Rae Barlow, her brother and sister-in-law, Duncan and Debra Barlow, her sister-in-law, Christine McGlinch Barlow, and her mother-in-law, Judy Richardson.
