Peter Fowkes Cowan

May 13, 1941 — September 6, 2023

Peter Fowkes Cowan, 82, of North Ogden, Utah passed away Wednesday September 6th, 2023 after a long battle with dementia.

He was born May 13, 1941, in Nephi, Utah to Alex Schofield and Melba Fowkes Cowan. His family moved to Davis County when he was young, settling in Layton. He was educated in Davis County schools, graduating from Davis High School.

He met Eva Elaine Morgart the love of his life in high school. They were married May 9th, 1959, in her parents’ home in Layton, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple on the 9th of May 1997.

He worked most of his life in the Grocery industry. Starting with Wayne’s Market when he was just a boy and on into High school. And then staying on when it sold to Smith Food Town, which later became Smith’s Food and Drug. He worked in stores from Kaysville to Logan as Assistant Manager, then Manager. He later became Regional Manager, being over stores in three states. After which he became Vice President in charge of grocery sales and merchandizing, building new stores. At the time of his retirement, he had become a buyer for Smith’s. He was a people person; over the course of his career, he met many people always wanting to get to know them and encourage them. He had a strong work ethic. Even after retiring he always hired the young men in his ward to help around the house, and later his grandson and great grandsons.

Pete and Eva always joked that they owned a boat before they owned a house. While raising their three girls, many Sundays were spent at Bear Lake enjoying the lake on his only day off. If he wasn’t on the lake, he was on the golf course, his other love. He golfed all over the country on many different golf courses. Pete and Eva loved to travel, seeing Australia, and many parts of Europe, and a few cruises. But their love was Hawaii, especially Maui, going there many times over the years.

Later in life, Pete got active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings.

He is survived by his loving wife Eva Cowan, North Ogden; three daughters, Teri (Larry) Graham, Willard; Lori Lucero, Harrisville; and Jenny (Tony) Saunders, North Ogden. Five grandchildren, Brandy (Neil) Moody, Kelso, WA; Victoria (Mike) Seepers, Littleton, CO; Nicole Mendoza, Ogden; Kaleigh (John) Shackford, Boise, ID; and Cody Saunders, North Ogden; thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. He is also survived by one brother Michael Cowan, Layton; and a sister-in-law Lou Cowan, Troy, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother George Cowan.

A graveside service for Pete will be held September 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden, Utah. In keeping with the wishes of the family there will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the LDS Humanitarian Fund or the charity of your choice.
