Paul was born on July 7, 1924 on a farm near Decorah, Iowa to John and Evelyn (Sjoboen) Sersland, the youngest of six brothers.

Upon graduating from Decorah High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a cadet. After several months of training he was assigned to a B-17 bomber crew. Several months later the crew was sent to England and they were assigned in 8th Air Force, 303rd Bomb Group, 360th Squadron. He completed a tour of 35 bombing missions over Germany as an aerial gunner and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with five Bronze Clusters.

On June 24, 1945 he was married to Imelda Gallagher at Pampa Army Air Base in Pampa, Texas, to this union three children were born, Karolyn Ebbert, Linda Lowe, and Sandra Sersland.

He was honorably discharged from the service on October 5, 1945 at Riverside, California.

Paul was a car-man on the railroad, farmer in Iowa, and later as an air craft mechanic, crew chief and inspector at Norton AFB in California. In August 1955 he was transferred to Hill Air Force Base with the Titan Missile division.

He married Madeline Cottrell on June 1, 1967 and they both retired from Hill in 1974. They spent over 30 years traveling and wintering in Arizona.

He is a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters; Karolyn Ebbert, Linda Lowe, and a stepson, Jim Cottrell.

Graveside services will be held Monday September 8, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
