Paul R. McBrien, Sr., born on August 13, 1971, in Sacramento, California, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the age of 53.

Paul was a  husband to Tomaria Peterson, whom he married on November 10, 2012, in Sacramento, California.  He was also a beloved father to his son, Paul Jr., who was undoubtedly the light of his life. Paul Sr. cherished every moment with his son, sharing countless adventures and experiences that will forever be etched in their memories. Additionally, he embraced his roles as a bonus father to Winston and Lynae (Latrell), nurturing their growth and supporting them with unwavering dedication.

Professionally, Paul dedicated himself to being a Commercial Maintenance Tech, applying his technical skills and diligent work ethic to ensure the comfort and safety of others. Not only did he serve in this capacity, but he also honored his country by serving in the United States Army as a medic. His commitment to service—both in his career and during his military tenure—reflects a character defined by support and care for those around him.

Throughout his life, Paul enjoyed many hobbies and interests that enriched his soul. He relished playing poker with friends, took pleasure in golfing and hiking, and reveled in the beauty of the great outdoors. Music filled his heart with joy, and his passion for sports showcased his competitive spirit. However, nothing brought him greater happiness than the time he spent with his son, Paul Jr., engaging in various activities that solidified their father-son bond.

Paul created lasting memories during his time living in various places, including California, Germany, and Utah. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will always remember his vibrant spirit, marked by his infectious laughter and genuine warmth.

Paul is survived by his  wife, Tomaria; his cherished son, Paul Jr.; bonus son, Winston; bonus daughter, Lynae (Latrell); his parents, Rickey (Lynn) McBrien and Joni Sue (Tom) Bertholf; and his brothers and sisters: Shawn (Ramona), Bad Hersfeld, Germany, Tony (Neida), Seattle, Washington, Chris, Clinton, Utah, Brandon (Brittani), West Haven, Utah,  BrandiLynn (Todd), Aurora, Colorado and SaraLynn, Midvale, Utah. He leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.

Preceding him in death are his paternal grandparents, Paul and Gladys McBrien, and his maternal grandparents, John and Loretta Conway. 

A Memorial Gathering in honor of Paul R. McBrien, Sr. will take place on Tuesday June 24, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, located at 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton, Utah.  Family and friends are invited to join together to celebrate the remarkable life of a man who exemplified love, service, and devotion. His legacy will endure in the hearts of many, reminding us to cherish every moment and hold our loved ones a little closer.
