Paul Earl Gumbrecht

Paul Earl Gumbrecht, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away on March 27, 2026, in Washington Terrace, Utah.

Paul was born on January 24, 1955, in Price, Utah, to Orlan Walter and Clara Dorleen (Russell) Gumbrecht. Paul moved to Layton at the age of nine. He remained a proud Layton resident for the majority of his life, graduating from Layton High School in 1974.

In his youth, Paul possessed an adventurous spirit, famously spending his summers picking pineapples in Hawaii. This work ethic and zest for life transitioned into a lifelong commitment to service. Paul served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Columbus, Ohio. He carried a powerful testimony of the Savior’s Gospel, which he shared naturally and joyfully with everyone he met. Throughout his life, he served in many church callings, building deep, lasting friendships along the way.

On July 13, 1977, Paul was sealed to the love of his life, Rebecca Ellen Wilson, in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. Together they were blessed with four children. Paul’s family was the center of his world; he was a fiercely proud father and even prouder “Grandpa” to his four grandsons.

Paul was a man who looked both forward and back. He was a dedicated genealogist, finding great joy in uncovering his heritage and ensuring family stories were passed down to the next generation. When he wasn’t researching family history, he was often found volunteering at the Bishop’s Storehouse, living his faith through quiet acts of service.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca; his daughters, Jenna Gumbrecht (Roy, UT) and Natalie (Scott Jr.) Garza (Smithfield, UT); and his cherished grandsons, Memphis, Cooper, August, and McCoy. He also leaves behind six “bonus” grandchildren, three “bonus” great-grandchildren; his brothers, Kurt and Raymond; and his sisters, Elise and Valerie.

He was joyfully reunited in Heaven by his parents, Orlan and Dorleen; his sister, Analee; his brother, Russell; his in-laws, Jack and Mary Wilson; and his beloved infant son and daughter, Hillary.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and friends at Mt. Ogden Care Center for the exceptional care, love, and friendship shown to Paul.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 10th Ward Chapel, 125 East 5350 South, Washington Terrace, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, Garden of South Peace, 4500 Washington Blvd. Ogden, Utah.
