Our beloved mother, Patricia Ann Christos Thiros, 87, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on December 10, 2024, at home, surrounded by her devoted husband of 67 years, family, and friends.
Patricia was born on August 5, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her life was a testament to kindness, humility, and resilience. Patricia’s childhood was marked by the early loss of her mother, which strengthened her resolve to create a loving home for her children. She was a faithful Greek Orthodox Christian, which was a guiding force in her life. It was at a gathering at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church where she met the love of her life, Louie Thiros. Despite the language barrier—Pat spoke little Greek and Louie spoke little English—their shared faith and love brought them together. They were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony on April 19, 1958, at St. Nicholas. Soon after, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to be near Louie’s Theo John and cousins and to pursue better opportunities.
Patricia worked diligently in her early years, including roles as a telephone operator in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a Navy Ocean Cartographer at the Freeport Center in Clearfield, Utah. During the years 1962-1975, Pat and her family lived on a dairy farm in Syracuse where they enjoyed raising cattle and crops. Shortly after, Patricia and her husband purchased a restaurant, Louie’s Crossroads Café and Lounge, and later expanded their efforts to include rental properties. Yet, her most cherished role was being a wife, mother, and yiayia. When questioned who her favorite was, she would say, “I love all of my children and grandchildren the same”. Yiayia was notorious for her never-ending Christmas and birthday presents. She found great joy in serving others, particularly her family, and lived out her faith in daily acts of love. Her grandchildren will forever cherish the memories of her warm home, her gentle hand that soothed their worries, and her delicious cooking—always flavored with love and tradition. Some of her signature dishes were pastichio, avgolemono, galaktoboureko, and koulouria.
Later in life, she treasured her daily coffee gatherings with her in-laws and lifelong friends, George and Virginia Thiros. They shared countless memories of raising children together and living near one another.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Irene Christos; her sisters, Dorothy Moss and June O’Neil; and several beloved family members who await her in the Kingdom of Heaven. She is survived by her husband, Louie; her children, Jim Thiros (Sue), Nick Thiros (Bessy), Pam Dawood (Abdulla, former spouse) and Dorie Farah (Sameer); her grandchildren, Cristian, Nicholas, Musa (Nasrin), Patricia, Patresia, Eleas, James, Jano, and Elysia; and her great-granddaughter, Sofia.
Patricia’s family finds solace in the promise of the Resurrection and in her legacy of love, faith, and devotion. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her example and the hope of eternal life in Christ.
The Viewing will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, in Patricia’s memory. May her memory be eternal. Αιώνια μνήμη.
