Norma Turner Braithwaite

May 19, 1940 — May 31, 2025

KAYSVILLE — Norma Turner Braithwaite, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cherished friend, and lifelong disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025, after a valiant life of service and love.

Norma was born May 19, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James Leslie and Diana Turner. She was the third of six children and grew up surrounded by family and faith in the Farmington and Kaysville area. A proud Davis Dart, Norma graduated from Davis High School before embarking on a life full of purpose, sprinkled with adventure, and a whole lot of love. After high school, she briefly attended BYU–Hawaii, then moved to San Diego with her dear friend Marcia, where in 1963, she met and married John Andrew Braithwaite. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on August 8, 1963, and began their life together in Southern California. There, they raised four children—Michael John, Robert Turner, Scott Leslie, and Mari Lee—in a home filled with love, learning, yummy food, lots of service, and where she taught her children the gospel of Jesus Christ. True to a promise made on their wedding day, John brought Norma home to Utah in 1998, where they enjoyed their final years together.

Norma’s talents were many, but her secret genius lay in homemaking as an expression of love. In this regard, she was a true artist. An exceptional cook, seamstress, and quilter, she was already assisting home economics teachers in large-scale event planning by the age of 12. By her early teens, she was orchestrating full luncheons solo, creating menus, preparing meals, and serving them with poise and care. Her quilts, which numbered in the hundreds, were never sold—only given freely, with love. Whether sewn for family, friends, or strangers in need, each quilt was a labor of heart and hands. In one remarkable year, she donated over 50 quilts to a local women’s shelter here in Kaysville. More recently, she turned her talents to making pillowcases for children in the PICU at Primary Children’s Hospital—each one whimsical, bright, and lovingly stitched for a child facing a tough road.

Norma, a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served faithfully in many callings, including Primary and Relief Society President, as well as counselor in the Young Women’s organization at both the ward and stake levels. She helped coordinate countless events, including Rose Proms, Eagle Scout Courts of Honor, and church dinners, always anchoring them with her signature generosity and grace. Through her church and community service, she made lifelong and cherished friendships. She nurtured her children, grandchildren, and anyone who needed her with warmth, wit, and unwavering support—whether she was snuggling a newborn, teasing a teenager, ministering to a friend or neighbor, reading with her grandchildren, or feeding a crowd her legendary and famous cinnamon rolls, turkey steaks, or homemade donuts.

She is survived by four of her siblings: Diane (Jack) Morrill, Shirley (Ortiz) Thompson, Jim (Joan) Turner, and Huck (Jolaine) Turner; her children: Michael (Francie) Braithwaite, Robert (Lisa) Braithwaite, Scott (Melayne) Braithwaite, and Mari Braithwaite; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren—with a few more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John A. Braithwaite; her parents James Leslie Turner & Diana Turner; younger brother Ralph Turner, who passed away earlier this year; brothers-in-law Jack Morrill, Ortize Tompson, James Bollschweiler, and Fred Braithwaite; Sister-in-Law, Karma Bollschweiler, and three nieces, Paula Earhardt, Kristy Jane Morrill, and Teri Mortensen.

We are absolutely confident that she was welcomed by all of these family members and that she is now safely Home. Well done, Mom.

The family would like to thank the medical professionals, in particular Dr. Bryan Campbell, who not only provided excellent medical care for more than 25 years, but whom also provided compassion, empathy, and genuine care for Mom’s well-being in every way.
