Norma Lucille Black

May 31, 1932 ~ May 8, 2021

Our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, and friend Norma Lucille Black passed away on May 8, 2021, surrounded by family.

She was born on May 31, 1932 in Huntington, Utah, to Ellis and Ethel Melva (Wright) Black. Her mother unexpectedly passed away in 1937, when Norma was just four years old, after which time her family moved from Huntington to Ogden, Utah.

Norma attended grammar school in Ogden and Clearfield, Utah, and in 1950 she graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah.

She married US Air Force Airman John Glidden in 1951. Their marriage was solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Manti, Utah. They were married thirty-seven years, raised five children, and were stationed by the US Air Force in Utah, Texas, Guam, Alaska, Newfoundland Canada, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Colleen Maynes, Bonnie Crouch, Carol
Black, Melva Lynn Black, Donna Rust and Erma Tifft; first husband, John Glidden, and her second husband, Lowell Wilske.

She is survived by her brothers, Lee Black and Rulon Black; children, Reed (Liza Braude) Glidden, Ruth (Greg) Barton, Mark (Evelyn) Glidden, Gary Glidden, Roy Glidden; grandchildren, Jeff Glidden, Jaclyn Dias, Elizabeth, Aron, and Michael Glidden; and three great-grandsons, Xander, Darien, and Jacob Dias.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life; she served in many church callings, and had a strong testimony of the gospel, our Heavenly Father, and our Savior, Jesus Christ.  She served church missions at Albuquerque, New Mexico, in Romania, and two at Cove Fort, Utah.

Her interests included an unwavering devotion to her family and faith, gardening, birdwatching, clogging, and reading; spending time with her family and friends in Utah in the summer, and in Quartzsite, Arizona in the winter.
