Norma Hamblin Ashdown

December 12, 1931 — November 5, 2022

Norma Leda Hamblin Ashdown, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully slipped through the veil and reunited with her husband Larry Curtis Ashdown on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Larry and Norma’s love for each other was solid. They were married for 72 years and separated for only 18 days when Larry passed on October 18, 2022.

Norma was born on December 12, 1931, to Peter Richard and Leda Lavon Jones Hamblin in Clearfield, Utah. There she enjoyed growing up with her 2 brothers, Lloyd and George, and her best friend and sister, Kate.

She married Larry on July 15, 1950 in Clearfield, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 8, 1951. They made their lifelong home in Sunset, Utah and together they raised a son and three daughters.

She worked for many years in the clerical profession and retired from American Savings in Roy where she was Branch manager.

Norma enjoyed growing up in Clearfield among so many cousins where she developed lasting friendships. She had Christlike love for everyone she came in contact with, and she was especially devoted to her family. Each of her grandchildren believe they are her favorite and they knew her door was always open for them.

Norma was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many stake and ward callings. She enjoyed her calling as stake Relief Society president and ward Relief Society President because of the many associations and eternal friendships she made and her affection for all she served. She had a special place in her heart for the youth and the time she spent with them. She always considered her time spent in the temple a great blessing and was grateful for the many years she and Larry served as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple. Her testimony of Jesus Christ was unwavering and her love for others was unconditional. She truly loved people and always expressed that love. Every person she met was always welcome in her home.

She is survived by her children who never doubted her love for them. David (Kathie) Ashdown, Shelley (Eric) Bertagnolli, Diane Kapp, Annette (Wayne) Johnson, her sister, Kate Hutchison, 15 adoring grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, her sweet granddaughter, Jenilyn Ashdown, son-in-law, Val Kapp and many friends who are having a wonderful reunion with her where there is much laughter and joy. We will miss her. Love you mom, 62.
