Nona Parker Kirkham

December 22, 1939 — August 30, 2025

Nona Parker Kirkham, age 85, was reunited with loved ones when she passed from this life into the next on August 30, 2025.

Nona was born in the home that her Dad's family had built on Lanark Road in the Bear Lake Valley, Idaho, on December 22, 1939 to Archie and Mary Carter Parker. Growing up on a dairy farm, there were many chores both indoors and outdoors that kept the Parker family very busy.

Family was always an important part of Nona's life, even as a young child, which included close relationships with aunts, uncles and cousins on both the Carter and Parker sides of her family. These family members were both family and dear friends to her throughout her life. They loved and supported each other.

Nona attended school in Paris (....Idaho). Shortly after completing high school, Nona moved to the avenues in Salt Lake City and enjoyed being near her Carter grandparents and other extended family. She began working and after a few years a good friend invited Nona to go on a blind double date with a friend of the couple. This friend, Gary Pugmire Kirkham, grew up in the avenues and was attending school at the University of Utah. Nona and Gary were married on March 26, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Nona and Gary were blessed with 5 children and over the years lived in the Salt Lake area, North Salt Lake and two different homes in Layton, Utah. Family remained very important to both Nona and Gary, and they were very supportive of both their children and their extended family.

Nona anticipated greatly the arrival of Grandchildren. They brought a happiness and light to her life and are all very much loved. She would then be blessed with great grandchildren that while maybe not as expected brought another increase of joy. Outdoor time, walks, and indoor playtime were happy times with those that lived locally. They could bring a smile to her face like no one else. Another blessing was close friends that would stop to say hi while she enjoyed her daily outside time. Along with life’s challenges there was much happiness.

Aside from time that Gary was working, Nona and he could most often be found together. Whether it was attending school and sporting events, shopping, traveling, weekly date nights, going for a walk or a car ride, or serving in their church. After Gary’s death Nona was called to serve as a Church-Service Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints at the Kaysville Bishop’s Storehouse.

Their faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ was a central focus of their lives. Nona had a great testimony of prayer and a deep and meaningful love of her Savior.
