Nelda Pearson, was born on April 8, 1936, in West Weber, Utah to Eliza (Buck) East and Harold East. She peacefully passed away on January 21, 2024, in Ogden, Utah at the age of 87. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Nelda graduated in 1954 from Weber High School. She spent her earlier years as a beautician. On October 13, 1956 in West Weber, Utah, she married the love of her life, Robert Elias Pearson. Robert was in the Navy, so Nelda was able to travel and live many different places in her life including Long Beach - California, Detroit - Michigan, Great Lakes - Illinois and Japan. Robert and Nelda were married for 42 years. Nelda spent the last six years of Roberts life providing care for him.
Nelda dedicated many years of her life to education. She began her career as a Teacher’s Aide and Librarian at Canyon View School. Later, she pursued her dream and became the owner of Mode O Day, a clothing store in Roy, UT, the name was later changed to Fashion Crossroads. After closing her store, Nelda returned to Canyon View School, where she worked with Alternative Kindergarten. She retired in 2005 but continued to make a difference in the lives of young students by substitute teaching at Green Acres Elementary, Burch Creek Elementary, and Marlon Hills Elementary specifically with the Alternative Kindergarten program.
Outside of her professional life, Nelda had many hobbies that brought her joy. She had a passion for crocheting and needlepoint, creating countless gifts for her family over the years. Nelda also enjoyed scrapbooking and made personalized books for each of her children, preserving cherished memories. She had a spirit of adventure and loved traveling and going on simple road trips, she was always ready for a new experience.
Nelda was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed serving in the Relief Society. Nelda was able to take out her Endowments and be Sealed to Robert in the Temple. This is something that Nelda was very proud of.
Nelda Pearson is survived by her children, Robert David Pearson, Don (Janae) Pearson, Ken (Sharon) Pearson, Lori (Charlie) Hunt, and Lisa (Mark) Herring-Murray. She was a beloved grandmother to 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and even had the joy of being a great-great-grandmother to one. Nelda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Pearson; her parents, Harold and Eliza East; her brother, Don East; and her sisters, Fae Urry and Genevie Siler.
The family would like to thank Our House Assisted Living of Ogden for taking such great care of her during the last seven months of her life. They would also like to thank her wonderful hospice nurse Allison, who was a great blessing for both the family and Nelda. They would like to recognize and give gratitude to caregivers Sola, Sita, Linda and Daysha who provided amazing care to Nelda while still in her home.
Nelda Pearson will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her memory will live on through the love and cherished moments shared with her loved ones.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
