Naomi Heninger Burton

January 10, 1938 — February 16, 2023

Naomi Heninger Burton returned to her Father in Heaven on February 16, 2023. Her last hours were spent lovingly surrounded by her family. She was born in Mendon, Utah on January 10, 1938, the youngest of eight children of Matthew Elmer and Zelda Bird Heninger. Naomi spent her early years in Mendon helping her father with the family garden, tending the farm animals, and helping her mother with genealogical research. Naomi participated several years in the Mendon May Day celebration dancing the Maypole dance for the community. Her family moved to Logan where she graduated from Logan High School. Naomi attended Utah State University where she received a Bachelor of Science and her Elementary School Teaching Certificate. Naomi taught elementary school in both Salt Lake City and Brigham City.

She met Lonell Hinck Burton while attending the university and the two were sealed for all eternity on June 15, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple. Naomi and Lonell had 5 children, DeAnn Layman, Kathy Chatelain, Annette (Nolan) Pendleton, Christine (Travis) Bates, and Alan (Tiffannie) Burton; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 grand dog. Naomi’s life was devoted to raising her children, helping in the raising of several nieces and nephews and several of her grandchildren.

Naomi was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the Primary. Naomi loved the gospel and the knowledge that families are forever.

She was a beautiful seamstress and made many of her own clothes when she was young, as well as her children’s clothes when they were young. She loved flowers of all kinds, singing primary songs (her favorite was I Often Go Walking, it reminded her of going on walks and gathering flowers with her mother), going on fun adventures with her children, eating out at any type of restaurant, and watching plays at Hale Theater. Her favorite thing of all was family parties and spending time with her family.

Her best friend her whole life has been her dear sister, LaPrele. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jamie Abshire.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

The family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice for the wonderful care they gave our mom.
