Nancy Ann Shevey

December 28, 1949 — April 28, 2029

Listen to Obituary

In the early morning hours on April 28, 2026, Nancy Ann Shevey, 76, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends. Although short, she courageously fought her battle with cancer. Nancy was born on December 28, 1949, in Ogden, Utah. She was raised in Corrine, UT and has strong Box Elder roots. Some of her fondest memories were those on the family farm. She maintained many childhood connections to her friends and neighbors from Corrine. Growing up, Nancy could often be found on the farm following her dad, watching his every move. Observing and learning, then later teaching her family those same lessons. She had an amazing ability to solve problems and create her own solutions. Her creativity, innovation and drive will be sorely missed.

She was the youngest and spiciest of six daughters born to Thomas and Wanda Misrasi. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1968. Soon after she met and married Brian H. Shevey in Brigham City, UT. They went on to have just two children, a son, Chris and a daughter, Jen, while living for a time in Greendale, WI. Her strong desire to be around family brought them back to Utah, where she spent the past 42 years living in Layton, Utah. She later divorced and remained in the same home, with her neighborhood family.

Nancy had a fulfilling 34-year career at Hill Air Force Base, where she made countless friends and connections. She retired in April 2018 and was able to spend more time on her true passion, her yard and flower gardens. She kept it tidy and loved a beautifully cut lawn. For the past several years, she had a regular group of hummingbirds visit, one she affectionally named Taco. She not only passed on her green thumb, but love of hummingbirds as well. If she wasn’t out tinkering around in her yard or garage, she loved playing a competitive round of Jeopardy with anyone willing to challenge her. She and Chris played often and kept a journal of score cards, her winning most of the time.

Nancy magically transformed into the best Gaga on the planet when her granddaughters, Olivia and Kendell were born. They held a special place in her heart and a bond so dear. They adored their time together and always looked forward to the next sleepover, trip to Bryson’s Rock shop or to the mall, Rainbow Gardens, and numerous family trips to Yellowstone.

She lived a simple life, with success measured in the number of memories she made with family and friends. She was very humble and would give you the shirt off her back and the last twenty dollars in her wallet. She always made sure we were well fed and had a little “spending cash” in our pockets. Never did we go without and she was always in our corner.

We will miss her feisty spirit, her sense of humor (even the crude parts), her passion for the earth and awe of space, her contagious giggle and smile, her home cooked meals, and her house always smelling like coffee. She never backed down from an opportunity to say what was on her mind (we blame it on being Albanian) and always trying to be right. We will miss all her TV shows, maybe now she knows the Curse of Oak Island. The way she would call over every rainbow, every stunning sunset, and beautiful clouds. You will be sorely missed, forever loved, and our guiding star.

A special thank you to her neighborhood family for their love and support for the last 42 years. To Dr. Stelter and Dr. Stinnett for graciously helping us navigate her cancer journey. To the care teams at Holy Spirit Hospital. A special thank you to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. And to everyone who called, texted, and checked on the family.

Per her request, there will be no funeral services, but a Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please donate on her behalf, to Tiny Paws Animal Rescue, Box Elder County, UT. Or if you prefer, please plant a tree or flowers in her honor.
