Mona Rose Asay Ellis passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 98, as a result of so many birthdays. She never imagined she would live so long. Mona was born April 15, 1927, in Kiz, Carbon County, Utah. She was the 11th child and the 6th daughter born to Isaac Allan and Emma Lucinda Gillespie Asay. She was the final survivor among her siblings.
Mona attended schools in California, Colorado, and Utah. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1946, the same year she met and married David Lindquist Ellis on November 6th in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She learned how to make candy in 1955. She became an accomplished chocolatier. She made assorted candies - mostly butter cream mints- for the Edgewood Wedding Reception Center. She also taught candy making and chocolate dipping classes for Ogden and Weber Adult Education Classes, for BYU Extension Services, and at numerous Ward and Stake Relief Society homemaking meetings in Weber and Davis Counties, and Florida, Georgia, and Washington D.C.
In 1990 Mona fell in love with making porcelain dolls. She learned to pour, clean, and paint beautifully. She already knew how to sew so she could make her own doll clothes.
Mona enjoyed bowling, was an excellent seamstress making most of her daughters’ dresses including Rosemary's wedding dress, and barbie clothes, (Karen had the best-dressed Barbie in the neighborhood), Porcelain doll making, camping, and candy making.
She was a member of the Susan Marriott Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Mona was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the Primary and Relief Society but mostly served as ward chorister. Together with David, Mona served one stake mission and four temple missions. They served twice in Washington D.C., once in Atlanta Georgia and Orlando Florida.
Mona and David had four children, Roger David and Rosario Ellis, Lynne Floto, Rosemary and Daniel Ferrin, and Karen and Steven Mecham. They have 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Mom is survived by three of her children and preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Lynne, her parents, her siblings, a grandson, and a grundle of extended family members who no doubt were happy to see her.
There will be no public viewing. Friends and family are welcome to attend her graveside service on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd., South Ogden. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary.
