Mildred Jean McAllister Hood Hamilton, age 95, of Ogden, Utah, passed away on April 6, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones peacefully at home.
She was born on March 24, 1931, in Salt Lake City, UT to Ella Keysor McAllister and John Daniel McAllister, III. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. She received a diploma degree in Nursing from Holy Cross Hospital and later attended the University of Utah to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
Jean dedicated her life to her family, religion, and her career. She worked as an Operating Room Nurse at several local hospitals for over 40 years and retired from the University of Utah Hospital. She was known for her strong work ethic, dedication, and kindness. She loved animals, camping, Country and Gospel music. She was crazy about dancing. She worked as a Den Mother, a camping guide and took karate lessons in her sixties.
Outside of work, she enjoyed reading, traveling, horseback riding, and gardening. She took in stray cats, dogs, and kids when needed. Her favorite trip was to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. Sailing down the Nile and walking where Jesus walked meant the world to her. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and helping others.
Jean is survived by her children, Carol Lee Hood, Janice Hood Kriese, John McAllister Hood, (Susana Rosas) and Julie Dawn Hood Kavanaugh, (John Patrick). She was fortunate to have 11 beautiful grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Captain Don Richard Hood and Bobby J. Hamilton; and her children, Don R. Hood, Jr., Kelly Ann Hood Nye Sterner, and Mark Andrew Hood.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
The family would like to thank the Intermountain Hospice team for their care and support, with special thanks to her nurse, Amber.
Jean will be remembered for her loving kindness and acceptance of others. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
