Mildred Lyda Brookey

Mildred Lyda Brookey, 92, of Corvallis, Oregon died January 20, 2012 at Timberhill Place. She was born to the late William Henry and Renah Crites Brookey January 27, 1919 in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. When Millie was five, the family moved to Parco, Wyoming. Millie graduated high school in Rawlins, Wyoming. After graduating, Millie went on to complete nursing school at Denver Presbyterian Hospital before joining the Army Nurse Corps. She served in France and England during WWII.

After her military service, she worked in Hawaii before returning to college. Millie was a nurse anesthetist working in Springfield, Oregon; Rawlins, Wyoming and Ogden, Utah. She retired from St. Benedict''s Hospital in Ogden, Utah after 45 years in the medical profession. Millie moved to Corvallis, Stoneybrook Lodge in 2003, then to Timberhill Place in 2010.

Millie enjoyed traveling, puzzles, reading, fishing and camping with family. She had many friends in Ogden, Utah whom she enjoyed trips with, shopping and dining out together. She was a family caretaker, nursing numerous family through illness and final days. She was always very supportive and giving of her time throughout her life. Millie was a wonderful Aunt and will be missed by all who loved her.

Millie is survived by niece, Katherine (Harlan) Akers, Corvallis, Oregon; nephew, Timothy (Shirley) Brookey, Fort Collins, Colorado; niece, Charlene Brookey, Winnemucca, Nevada; Charlene''s daughter, Carla Brookey; and several great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Carl Brookey; sister, Alliene Zubek; nephew, Michael Lee Brookey; and niece, Patricia Doyle.

A special thanks to all of Timerberhill Place staff and Samaritan Evergreen Hospice caregivers for their wonderful care and loving support during Millie''s final days.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. Friends may visit family on Friday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, 1046 6th Ave. SW, Albany, OR 97321.
