Michael Shawn Peel

Michael Shawn Peel was born December 15, 1967, and passed away June 11, 2024, following an emergency medical event. 

Fishing was Mike’s favorite pastime and anyone that knew him knew he was kind, didn’t care about material possessions, and that he loved and missed his children. We are all thankful that you are free from the drug addiction, sadness and the immense loneliness that we know you struggled with. We truly hope and pray that you are with Nana and Dorie. 

Michael is survived by his three children, Tiffany (KJ) Marsh, Cody (Stephanie) Peel, and Jessica (Jarell) Holland; and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Dorie Sue Patterson Peel; and his mother, Mildred Lucille Miller Peel.

In lieu of services we would like to share this letter to Mike from his children. 

Dad, 

Although we set boundaries to ensure that your demons did not become ours, we did hope that one day you would turn things around. All three of us have a few fond memories to cherish. 

Those late-night fishing trips, just me and you sitting on the rocks at Willard Bay. This is where I developed my love of fishing and for that I will always be thankful. I remember you saying “If you see lights on the water or a boat coming this way, you throw your pole in the water!” I had no idea then that it was because you didn’t have a fishing license haha! - Tiffany

My fondest memory with you was the long, long bike rides. Rain or shine, I loved that time with you! - Cody

Yes, the bike rides! That time I crashed in the gutter. The way you scooped me up and held me so tight against your chest and made me feel so safe - Jessica 

Although you were not there in the traditional sense and most of your lessons were taught from the lens of what not to do, those lessons did make us better people and parents to our own children. For that we thank you. 

We are going to hold on to the fond memories and let go of the rest! Happy Fishing.
