Listen to Obituary

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Michael ‘Mike’ R. Harris, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

He was born on November 9, 1947 in Malad, Idaho to Ralph Delon Harris and Marie Rudd Harris. On September 25, 1970, he married Zella Joy Belliston in the Manti LDS Temple. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1966 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, minoring in Spanish, from Weber State University.

Mike was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a faithful mission to the Uruquayan Mission from February 1967 to February 1969. Throughout his life, he held many ward positions, and enjoyed missionary work throughout his life. He worked in the Ogden, UT temple for many years after the passing of his wife in 2011. He is the father of six loving children, 19 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mike devoted his life to his family, compelled by a profound sense of duty and love he felt for each family member. Mike was skilled working with his hands and spent countless hours on construction and repair projects in his home and on his vehicles, as well as on the homes and vehicles of his children. He lived and worked to benefit his family and never took any thought for himself, diligently giving of himself when in need.

Above all else, Mike was dedicated to the love of his life, his wife, Joy. The passing of Joy fourteen years ago left a tremendous void in his life and he would always talk about her and wished she was still with him.

Mike worked as a grain miller for forty years at the flour mill on 220 West 30th Street in Ogden, UT. He took pride in his work and worked many hours of overtime every week to provide for his family.

Mike loved baseball as a youth; both playing and umpiring. He would later play softball in city and church leagues. He passed this love to his kids and would often take them to local minor league games. He would practice with them in the backyard until the backyard became too small and playing catcher hurt his hand too much.

Mike loved spending time camping with his family, and traveled to many camp grounds around Utah and along the West Coast, pulling his tent trailer with his blue 1972 Ford pickup, creating memories that will never be forgotten. Mike also enjoyed taking trips with his kids to Coalville to fish the Weber River, and hiking to fish the remote lakes of the Uinta Mountains.

Mike enjoyed taking his boys on many October deer hunts, passing on his knowledge of how to have a successful hunt, which was a rare occasion. Even so, his enjoyment was in the experience itself, as he always felt a successful hunt meant time well spent with his sons, whether or not they brought anything home. Joy always thought a successful hunt meant not bringing anything home. Mike loved to see the successes of his kids on their own hunting and fishing trips, and would always say to them, “You know who taught you that, right?”

Mike loved BYU football and basketball and would have the schedule of games printed and would always be found watching or listening to the broadcasts. Mike was an avid reader, bike rider, and walker, using the path constructed on the old rail pathway daily. It is fitting that Mike was on a walk at the time of his passing.

Michael is survived by his children; Christopher Todd (Amanda) Harris of Eden; Wendy Joy (Steve) Johnstun of Ogden; Timothy Michael (Kristin) Harris of West Haven; Kyle R. (Joni) Harris of Layton; Cami Marie (Torrey) Tolton of Syracuse; and Karalee Ann (Daniel) Kemp of Roy; one sister, Karen Hover, all 19 grandchildren, and all 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy, his parents, and his younger brother Delon Jay Harris.
