Michael J Golden

November 21, 1942 — September 27, 2024

Michael J Golden passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born on November 21, 1942, to Ida and Ivan Paul Golden in Bell, California.

When Mike was two years old, his father died, and his mother was later remarried to Arnold Joseph Brough. Mike was raised in Nephi, Utah with his older brother Jim and his little sister Barbara.

Mike loved sports and spent most of his time actively playing baseball, basketball, and football. He was also a talented piano player and loved playing honky tonk whenever he had an audience.

He later attended BYU and graduated with a degree in Accounting. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nellie Cope.

Mike and Nellie were married on February 4, 1967, in the Manti, Utah Temple.

After accepting an accounting job from Clover Club Foods, Mike and Nellie relocated to Glendale, California. They lived in Glendale for five years before moving to Kaysville, Utah where they raised their four children and have lived for the past 50 years.

Mike was always actively involved in his community. He served in the Air Force Reserves, was president of the Kaysville Chamber of Commerce and loved being a small business owner of Golden Touch Ceramics and Baskin Robbins. He also spent time as a real estate agent for Brough Realty.

Mike and Nellie served a full-time mission in Kirtland, Ohio for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and several service missions including Whisper Cove Assisted Living, and Temple Square.

Mike’s greatest love was his family. One of the highlights of his life was meeting his half-sister and brother, Sonja and Larry.

He spent countless hours hosting family gatherings with his grandkids where he mixed drinks and cheated at Mexican Train. He loved people and made friends wherever he went. He had a passion for telling stories that always seemed to improve over time. He had a deep love of the gospel, but always told friends he was a bartender in the pre-existence.

Mike is survived by his wife, Nellie, and his children: M. Jeffrey Golden (April Jarvis), Bryan Golden (Barbara Rawlins), Emily (Troy Van Drimmelen), Melissa (Casey Morris), his 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
