Michael Ray Anderson, born on June 29, 1941, in Burley, Idaho, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025. He was a devoted educator, having served as a 7th and 8th-grade teacher, a junior college evening history teacher, and held positions as an Assistant Principal and Junior High Supervisor in charge of Computer Technology for a school district. Michael’s passion for educating young minds and his commitment to his students were evident throughout his extensive career.
Michael’s academic journey included earning an AA Degree and an MS Degree in European History, demonstrating his dedication to learning and teaching. He was known not only for his knowledge but also for his kind and welcoming nature, accompanied by a great sense of humor that made a lasting impression on those around him.
Throughout his life, Michael lived in various locations, including Spanish Fork, Utah; Sunnyvale, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Glendale, Arizona; Santa Maria, California; and Syracuse, Utah. These communities benefited from his earnest contributions, both as an educator and as an active member of society.
His proudest accomplishments included serving a mission in Switzerland as a young man and later serving as Bishop of a Ward in California. After retirement, he embarked on two missions with his beloved wife, Ruth, in the Alpine German Speaking Mission and at the Nauvoo Temple Mission, showcasing their shared commitment to their faith and community.
A man of many interests, Michael enjoyed cheering for the 49ers, golfing, basketball, puzzles, camping, playing the guitar, and spending time with his family on vacations, creating cherished memories that will be treasured by his loved ones.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his sons, Michael and his wife Ayla; David and his wife Traci; and William and his wife Sigrid. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy of love and kindness. Also survived by his brother Philip and sister-in-law Carol.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie LaRay and Beth Anderson, and siblings Larry, Dean, Tina, and Paula. Michael was also welcomed into the arms of his grandparents, William Richard Anderson, Mary Jane Johnson, William Archibald Ferguson, and Elizabeth Regina Frances.
Michael Ray Anderson leaves behind a profound legacy of love, education, and service, one that will forever be remembered and honored by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Jensen Park Ward, 3024 South 1200 West, Syracuse UT. Friends may visit with family on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse UT, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
