Merlin Sorensen Fielding

I, the former Merlin Sorensen Fielding, no longer being of strong mind or body, died May 13, 2025 at the age of 85 peacefully at home. I was born of goodly parents in the old Dee Hospital in Ogden, Weber, Utah, to William Wayne Fielding and Hildred Emily Sorensen. I attended Wasatch Elementary, North Davis Jr. High Schools, and graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville in 1958. I wanted to play football but the coach would not let me because I did not weigh enough, I was only 165 lbs. I almost got to serve in the Army, but when I got my draft notice, in the same envelope there was a deferment because I was attending college at Weber State College. I later received a 4F for having leg problems. I served in the Southern States and Florida Missions from 1960 to 1962. Just 4 months after my return, I married my eternal companion Linda Peterson, on June 8, 1962 in the Salt Lake City Temple.

I received my Real Estate license in Jan 1971 and my Brokers license in 1978. I owned my own real estate company, Realty World, Fielding and Associates. From Oct. 1981 to Aug. 2002, I worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, managing real estate. I bought about 200 meeting house sites over the next 21 years.

My hobbies are working on my Corvairs and doing family research and of course my family who I love very much. I am a firm believer of the true message of my Lord and Savior even Jesus the Christ as taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He made it possible for me to be forgiven of my many transgressions and failings.

I served many callings in the church predominately with the youth. I served in 4 Bishoprics and High Council. I had been registered with the Boys Scouts of America for 74 years. I began as a Webelos leader of 32 boys and followed them through as their Scoutmaster, Varsity Coach and Explorer Leader. I eventually worked with over 65 boys. 75% of them received their Eagle Scout Award. My three sons also received their Eagle Scout Award. I have received many awards in scouting including the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver.

I am survived by my wife, my sons; Gregory Lance (Layton), Ronald Todd (Ogden), and Tyson Wayne (Katie) (Clinton). My Daughters; Staci (Scott) Vernon,(South Weber), Jodi (Jeff) Adamson (Layton) and Gina (Josh) Halfman (Washington Terrace). Many grandkids and great grandkids. My two sisters, Marian Delaney (Colorado) and Dorothy Fielding (Syracuse) and my Sister-in-Law Frances (Dee) Fielding (Lehi).

Funeral services will be held Saturday May 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oak Forest Ward, 2250 East 2200 North, Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Friday May 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
