Melvin Page Waite was called home by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the age of 88.
He was born July 17, 1923 in Bountiful, Utah to Gerald and Salina Waite. He grew up in Syracuse and worked hard on the farm. Although life was not easy, he learned the value of rewards that come from an honest day''s work.
On September 10, 1942, Melvin married the love of his life, Lois Wilson in Malad, Idaho. Their love continues for 69 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for American Pack and Swift Company for 21 years and later worked at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1988 after 21 years of service.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Lois, brother Eldon and sister Wilma, his children and their spouses Ralph and Sheri Marchant, Coplan and Carol Vaughan, Glenn and Jeaneen Logan, Ron M. and Francine Waite, Phil and Cathy Fullmer, 16 grandchildren (two deceased), 30 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and two more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister LeRaine, two brothers Max, Faye, two granddaughters, Judy Marchant and Jennifer Fullmer
The family would like to thank the nurses at Heritage Park Care Center Hospice team and all his care givers for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Thank you.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 12th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
