PAPA and NANA Together Again.
Melvin “Papa” Mason, age 68, passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2025, after a courageous eight-year battle with kidney disease. Born on December 8, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Melvin was known for his resilience and the deep love he held for his family.
Melvin's life was defined by his devotion to those closest to him, especially his beloved wife and best friend Sue. Although his two sons, Jeff and Jeremy, were not his own, you would have never known. They were his greatest pride and joy. Papa loved his grandkids very much (Koda, Ciara, CJ and Kaden) and was very proud of every accomplishment and milestone they made.
Throughout his lengthy health struggles, Melvin remained a source of strength, facing his diagnosis with the same quiet determination that characterized his entire life. Mel spent the last 4-1/2 years at the Mount Ogden Health and Rehab Center, where he made many, very close friends who helped him have a happy home away from home. The care he received at Mount Ogden Health & Rehabilitation Center was world class and his family would like to thank the entire staff from the bottom of their hearts. Jeff and Jeremy would also like to let Jamie Stettler know that the love and care you showed for Papa was very much appreciated and truly amazing.
Papa was preceded in death by his wife Sue “Nana” Mason and their dog Bridget. His legacy of perseverance and dedication will continue through his family and the many lives he touched.
Mel is survived by his sons Jeff (Jamie) Stettler and Jeremy (Sheree) Stettler; grandkids Nakoda (Alyssa) Stettler, Ciara Stettler, Carter Stettler and Kaden Stettler; stepgrandkids Logan (Arley) Wilde, Chandler Wilde, Cole Wilde and Clarisa Wilde; and two great grandkids Logan Jr. and Cheyenne Wilde. Melvin always had a place in his heart for the family he greatly missed and truly loved.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the Mount Ogden Rehab Center in Mel’s name.
