Maxine Pokorny, age 83, passed on December 21, 2025.
We’d like to tell you the story of Maxine’s life. She was born on October 10, 1942 in Billings, MT to Ralph and Madeline (Russell) McLean. Maxine grew up in Scottsbluff, NE and later moved to Omaha, NE with her parents and sister, Caroline (who she adored). She graduated from Omaha North High School in 1960.
After graduating from high school, Maxine went to work at Union Pacific Railroad. She then met her to-be husband Charles (Chuck) Pokorny and they were married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on September 9, 1962. The two enjoyed a life with their four children, Diane, Patricia, Chuck Jr., and Michael. Family was the top priority for her whether it was caring for everyone, telling stories to her children, or just making everyone laugh with her antics.
In 1983, Chuck and Maxine moved their family to Layton, UT, where they enjoyed the great outdoors that was offered including hiking, fishing, camping, and many times just taking long motorcycle trips on their Harley Davidson in the mountains. Maxine continued her career with the IRS until she retired. Once retired, they took the time to travel to Italy and visit friends and family across the United States.
Maxine was a dedicated Catholic her entire life and volunteered much of her time at the local parish. She enjoyed learning about her religion and educating others.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; daughter, Patricia; parents, Ralph and Madeline; step-father, Dallas McWilliams; her sister, Caroline.
She took much pride in her family and will be deeply missed by her children Diane Johnson (spouse, Lowell, who she considered her son and sometimes appreciated more than her daughter), Chuck Pokorny, Jr., and Michael Pokorny. Maxine had eight grandchildren, Rudy, Vanessa, Nina, Danny, Niki, Kiara, Rilee and Skyler; and 22 great grandchildren.
The family thanks Spring Gardens of North Ogden, UT and A Plus Home Healthcare for the loving care and support given to Maxine during this difficult time. It is very much appreciated by everyone.
