Maximiliano Eugenio “Gene” Gonzales
March 29, 1925 ~ August 13, 2017
OGDEN – Maximiliano Eugenio “Gene” Gonzales passed away peacefully at his home in Ogden, Utah, on Sunday morning, August 13, 2017.
Gene was born on March 29, 1925 in Ordway, Colorado to Manuel and Selena (Maldonado) Gonzales. He was the third of five children. He was a veteran of World War II. He received his enlistment into the Army in 1943 and fought at the beachhead landings in Anzio, Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star for “heroic and meritorious achievement.” He fought for the country he loved, making him a true American.
He married his soul mate, the love of his life, Maria “Mary” Cecelia Pena on June 1, 1947 in Nampa, Idaho. Gene and Mary were married for sixty four years. He was the most wonderful example of how a husband, father “daddy”, grandfather and great grandfather should be.
Gene retired as an Item Manager from Hill Air Force Base after 33 years of service. He also worked with the Senior Companion Program. He always gave of his time to help others.
Some of his hobbies were refurnishing old Cadillac’s, which were in many car shows and parades. He liked going to antique and gun shows and buying and selling his beautiful collection of old railroad pocket watches and firearms.
He was a member of Victory Assembly of God Church for many years and being able to share the word of God always brought him much joy. Gene was a perfect example of how a Christian man should live. He loved God and loved his family very much. He enjoyed all the Gonzales and Pena family traditions and family functions throughout his years. He touched the lives of everyone he met; he was a strong man of wisdom and encouragement, he was so understanding and giving, a tender man at heart, a very kind man and was highly respected by his family and friends.
Gene is now in heaven with his beautiful wife, Mary; and survived by his six children, Linda Delores Woolley, Ruby Selena Thatcher, Victoria Christine (Ralph) Ramos, Augustine Manuel Gonzales, Mark Eugene (Lorraine) Gonzales, and Anthony Charles Gonzales; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He has left us with beautiful memories which we will cherish forever and we know that we will join him some day in the mansion that God has prepared for all of us.
