Matthew Al Bodle—son, brother, nephew, and friend—passed away on April 24, 2026, at the age of 31.
Matthew was born on April 26, 1994, in Ogden, Utah. He resided in Layton Utah his whole life and attended Layton High School. Matthew lived a life rooted in adventure, hard work, and a deep love for the natural world. He found joy where the mountains met the sky, where rivers ran cold and clear, and where trails disappeared into the trees. Whether hiking rugged paths, casting a line at sunrise, hunting in the quiet dawn, or sitting beside a campfire under the stars, he felt most at home outdoors.
Matthew was known for his steady strength, generous spirit, and willingness to lend a hand. He taught those around him the value of perseverance, respect for nature, and appreciation for life’s simple moments. He could fix almost anything, tell a good story, and make strangers feel like old friends.
Above all, he cherished his family. The bond he shared with his mom was especially meaningful—they treasured their morning coffee together and their Sunday dinners.
He is survived by his mother, Theresa Bodle; father, Richard Bodle; brother, Jacob Bodle; uncle Eugene (Natisha) Leon; a handful of cousins; and many dear friends who will miss him deeply. Though he has taken his final trail, his memory will remain in every sunrise, every tall pine, every rushing stream, and every quiet path where we feel close to him still.
