Mary Louise Toyn, née Abalos, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on April 7, 2026, in Concord, California, at the age of 95. Born on May 8, 1930, in Montello, Nevada, Mary lived a life rich with love, kindness, and resilience, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary’s early years were rooted in Montello, where she attended Montello Elementary and High School before furthering her education at Stevens Heneger College. It was during these formative years that she developed the foundation for her lifelong commitment to learning and connection.

Her career spanned more than fifteen years in accounting at National Distribution Systems. Mary loved her role and approached it with the same kindness, positivity, and strength that defined her character throughout her life.

Mary’s heart was always fullest when surrounded by family. She treasured her time with her daughter, Vicki Fowler, and son-in-law, Scott Fowler; her seven grandchildren—Tony Doyle, Ryan Fowler (and his wife Monica), Austin Fowler (and his wife Krystal), Derek Shenefelt (and his wife Danielle), Ashly Fusselman, Christopher Shenefelt, Rosalie Arave—and her sixteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her days. She also held a special place in her heart for her favorite nieces. Though she mourned the loss of her husband, Edward L. Toyn, as well as her children Tamara Shenefelt and James Toyn, and her cherished sisters and brothers, Mary’s spirit remained strong and her love enduring.

Known for her kind, loving, and social nature, Mary embraced life enthusiastically. She enjoyed reading and, in her younger years, found delight in bowling, camping, and fishing. Even into her nineties, Mary embraced technology with a youthful spirit—engaging with games like coloring and word searches on her iPad and enjoying connecting with friends and family on Facebook. Her passion for travel led to treasured memories with Vicki and Scott, including visits to Hawaii and an unforgettable journey through Italy, where they explored the beauty of Pisa, Florence, Rome, and Venice. Highlights included reconnecting with an old friend from Montello and the awe-inspiring visit to the Vatican.

Mary was a wonderful cook who delighted in hosting family dinners, cherishing those moments where laughter and stories were shared around the table. Her musical tastes were broad, and after many car rides with her daughter Vicki, where the radio never left The Beatles Channel, she grew to appreciate their timeless tunes, often humming favorites like "Let It Be."

Following her retirement, Mary devoted time and love to volunteering at the Clearfield Senior Center, a testament to her generous and social spirit and commitment to community.

Her strength and positivity carried her to the very end, a source of comfort to those who loved her. Mary’s visitation will be held on April 21, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 514 24th St, Ogden, Utah, followed by burial at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 E Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah.

Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joyful memories that will forever warm the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a beautiful testament to the enduring power of family and faith. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the honor to know her.
