Listen to Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Nielsen Horne passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Beth was born on October 13, 1938, in Malad, Idaho, the youngest of four children born to Leland Mark Nielsen and Mary Thorpe Nielsen. She graduated from Weber High School in 1956 and attended Weber College.

On September 19, 1958, Beth married Darrell J. Horne. Together they built a loving family that included their children Natalie and Chris, and Rick from Darrell’s previous marriage. Beth and Darrell were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple.

Beth was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She and Darrell also served missions at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Beth worked at First Security Bank, Prudential Federal Savings, and later with the Davis County Health Department (WIC program). She was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and dedication to helping others.

Beth loved traveling with her husband and cherished their many trips to Germany and throughout Europe, as well as cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. She was an avid Jazz basketball fan and found great joy in watching the games on TV. Beth especially enjoyed gathering with friends, hosting parties, and opening her home to others. Holidays were particularly meaningful to her, and she took great pride in creating special family traditions and memorable celebrations filled with love, laughter, and togetherness.

In later years, Beth and Darrell lovingly cared for their mothers during the final four years of their lives, a testament to their compassion and devotion to family.

Beth is survived by her children: Natalie (Cory) Swenson of West Haven; Chris Horne of Fruit Heights; and Rick (Shirley) Horne of West Point; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Janet Hall of Springfield, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Darrell, who passed away in 2002 from pancreatic cancer; and two brothers.

Beth will be remembered for her faith, love of family, welcoming home, and gentle spirit. Her strength, grace, and unwavering love were an inspiration and a blessing to her family and all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed.
