Mary Louise Alder

1929 ~ 2016

Mary Louise Alder, 86, passed away quietly and peacefully on the evening of Thursday, May 19, 2016. She is survived and honored by her three loving sons, Tony, Doug (Mary) and Steve (Kathleen); 16 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mary was born in Los Angeles in 1929 to Antonino and Josephine Lucera. She married Eugene Vickers Alder on April 23, 1955, and together they lived a life of faith, family and service for the next 60 years. Gene was her devoted husband, friend, partner, and provider. Their marriage serves as an inspiration and example of faithfulness and devotion, and will continue to bless the lives of their children, grandchildren, and generations yet to come.

Mary was an accomplished artist, and worked in technical illustration in Los Angeles for a number of years.  She continued to paint throughout her life, and produced a number of watercolor works to the delight of her family. Mary was also an avid genealogist, and spent countless hours researching and extracting family names from her ancestral town of Corleone, Sicily, producing one of the largest Italian family archives at the time.  She gained particular joy from seeing the fruits of her labor in genealogy work in the temple.  In her later years, she served as a Federal employee in the Department of Naturalization until her retirement in 1990.

Mary was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including a mission with her husband to the Korea Seoul LDS Temple from 1991 to 1993. Her love and devotion to the Korean people was evident throughout the rest of her life.

Mary's dedication to her family was evidenced by her sacrifice and nurturing example, along with attendance at countless little league games, high school events, and music and dance performances.
