Mart E. Olson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, at the age of 66, in Ogden, Utah, after a valiant fight with cancer. Born on June 11, 1959, in Ogden, Mart was the cherished son of the late Hal and Donna Olson.
Mart shared a beautiful life with his devoted wife, Barbara Olson, whom he married on February 2, 1980. Their union, spanning over 46 years, was a testament to love, commitment, and joy. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters: Amanda Cox (Russell), Brooke Olson (Nino), and Christy Rounkles (Mike). His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Angel, Sam, Betty, McKenzie, Miles, Andie, Jonah, Callie, and Kaylee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Mart was predeceased by his parents, Hal and Donna; his brother Ray, and his brother-in-law, Neal Winder. He is survived by his siblings, Steve Olson (Janet), Randy Olson (Kathy), Duane Olson (Gayleen), Donette Winder, and Darla Shaum (Mike), who will all deeply miss his presence and the joy he brought into their lives.
A graduate of Ben Lomond High School and later, Two Rivers High School, Mart was a man who exemplified hard work and perseverance. His career in construction saw him contributing to significant projects with George T. Smith Construction, Whittaker Construction, and Amcor, before retiring from Old Castle. Known for his skill and vision, Mart was affectionately referred to as “Mr. Fix It”—a testament to his ability to build or repair anything he set his mind to.
Mart’s passions extended beyond his professional life. An avid fisherman, he never missed an opportunity to cast a line, reveling in the serenity and challenge of the sport. His love for the outdoors was matched by his joy in gardening, where he took great pleasure in sharing the fruits of his labor with loved ones. Mart’s talent for crafting hand-carved and painted fishing lures was a cherished gift he shared with those closest to him. Camping was another of Mart’s great joys, with weekends spent under the stars in the company of family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Mart was known for his infectious smile, a smile that could light up a room and make anyone feel at ease. His sense of humor and ability to make others laugh was a gift he shared generously, as was his wisdom and selflessness in teaching and helping those around him. Mart’s presence was a source of comfort and safety, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.
Graveside services to celebrate Mart’s life will be held on April 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 E Combe Rd.
