Marlene Smith Stark

January 1, 1933 — May 11, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Marlene Stark passed away in Ogden, Utah on May 11, 2026, at the age of 93. Marlene was a New Year’s Day baby, born on January 1, 1933, in Ogden, Utah to Virgil Obry Smith and Ireta Viola Jaques. She was educated in the Ogden City School District.

Marlene married Reid O. Stark on January 6, 1951, in Ogden. On May 11, 1959, they were sealed as a family for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. After living in Ogden for one year, Reid and Marlene moved to South Weber, where she lived for the next 74 years.

They were blessed with five sons: Chad & Debra Stark of South Weber; Chet & Penny Stark of Liberty; Curt & Wendy Stark of Marriott-Slaterville; Clay Stark; Robin Stark; and Carr Stark, all of South Weber.

Marlene was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and belonged to the South Weber 1st Ward. She held many callings throughout her life, but one of her greatest roles was supporting Reid in all of his callings through the years.

Marlene was one of the very best grandmas and grandma–greats around. She had 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, with one more great-great-grandchild on the way. She was never happier than when she was supporting her boys, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all of their activities.

Marlene was an avid fan of sports. Her favorites included the New York Yankees, Utah Jazz, Utah Mammoth, BYU, the NFR, high school rodeo, and really any rodeo she could watch. But more than anything, any sport or activity her boys, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren participated in was her absolute favorite.

Marlene is survived by her five sons; her sisters, Judy (Clifford) Kimball of Washington Terrace and Kathy (Mel) Rhoades of South Weber; and Deon and David Rasmussen of Ogden. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Gary Smith; and her three grandsons, Cole R. Stark, Casey L. Stark, and Beau Chet Stark.
