Listen to Obituary

Clinton, UT‒Marjorie Emma Marsh Butcher, 99 ¾ years, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the home of her daughter, Linda.

She was born on December 22, 1925, in Evanston, WY, to William Henry and Mary Emma Spencer Marsh.

She married Donald Eugene Butcher on June 2, 1948, in Ogden, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 2, 1964.

Mom’s early elementary school years were spent in a one room schoolhouse where she was taught by two of her older sisters, Gwen and Dorothy. After third grade she moved to Evanston and finished her education, graduating from Evanston High School in 1943.

After graduation, mom worked as a telephone operator. As WWII waged on there was a call for nurses. Mom heeded the call and entered nurse’s training in February 1944. She graduated as a registered nurse in May 1946. Mom worked as a registered nurse at Holy Cross Hospital, St. Benedicts Hospital, and Ogden Regional Hospital. She retired in December 1990 after a total of 40 years of service.

Mom enjoyed camping and fishing (but not the worm part of fishing). Her and dad would sometimes go fishing early in the morning before mom went to work her swing shift at the hospital.

Mom was a valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in various capacities. Mom was a great example of service, always concerned about those sisters she was called to visit teach. She was so kind and loved her fellow widows in the ward. She gave special assistance to her friend Berniece Stewart. Mom was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Mom had many hobbies which included: fishing, crafts, sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

Mom is survived by three daughters, Margie Nelson (Bob-deceased), Jill Read (Dave) and Linda Bradshaw (Scott); one son, Dale Butcher (Sue); one son-in-law, Lee Koldewyn; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Mary Lou Koldewyn; a grandson, Nathan Koldewyn; her parents; and her five sisters and brother.
