"Together Again"

Marion G. Rice was reunited with her eternal partner on June 1, 2016, their 61st wedding anniversary.  She passed peacefully at her home in Ogden, with her wonderful daughter and caregiver, Lorrie R. Osborne, by her side.

Marion was born on June 21, 1927 in Ogden, Utah, the only daughter (seven brothers) of Leon Willard and Emily Gattiker Gardiner.  She was raised and educated in Ogden.  She lived the majority of her life in Ogden with a brief move to Idaho in her early 20’s.

Marion married Lloyd Hutchinson in 1943; they later divorced.

She married her eternal partner, Leo Blaine Rice, on June 1, 1955; their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on April 6, 1965.

Marion was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mound Fort 1st Ward; she was a faithful member and fulfilled numerous callings.  Some of which were, Young Womens President, Chorister for many years, served in the Relief Society, and worked in the Ogden LDS Temple for four years.

She worked for Ogden City as a switchboard operator and Vince’s Hospital Drug.  As her family grew she became a stay at home mother and also had a small daycare in her home.  She loved the children she cared for and they loved her.  Once her children were raised, she returned to Vince’s and worked until she was 72.  She was loved by her co-workers and many regular customers.

Marion had a beautiful voice; she loved singing in church and often sang to her children to stop them from fighting.  Marion loved bowling and bowled on leagues for many years.  Marion was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She found the positive in every situation and taught us all patience, kindness, and forgiveness.

Marion is survived by her children, Daniel W. (Jane) Hutchinson, Paul B. (Pat) Rice, Kevin L. Rice, Lorrie R. (Michael deceased) Osborne, Denise R. (Max) Hair, and Angela Rice (David Reid); two daughters-in-law, Sharon Hutchinson and Susan Rice; 27 grandchildren,  31 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard, Bruce, and John Gardiner and their families.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Blaine Rice; her parents, her brothers, Dale, Howard, Robert, and Leon Gardiner; grandsons, Brandon P. Rice and John D. Hutchinson; and son-in-law, Michael Osborne.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
