Marilyn Bird Stewart, age 93, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 17, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was born on October 28, 1932, in Ogden, Utah, to Merrill and Ruby Bird. From an early age, Marilyn learned the values of hard work, faith, and caring for others—principles that guided her throughout her life. On July 13, 1951, she married her eternal companion, Douglas Stewart, in the Logan Temple. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service, raising their children with love, patience, and devotion to the gospel.
Marilyn was a woman of quiet strength and constant service who devoted her life to helping those around her. She was a faithful visiting teacher and generously donated quilts and blankets to various locations locally and around the world, each stitch reflecting her compassion for others. She volunteered at several elementary schools, where she found great joy reading with children and encouraging young learners. Her love of service was also evident through her many Church callings, including Relief Society President, Young Women, and Primary, where she touched countless lives through her example and testimony.
She had a deep love for sewing and was always mending or fixing someone’s clothes, never hesitating to help when something needed repair. This passion led her to work in various fabric stores over the years, where she shared both her talents and kindness with customers and coworkers alike. Marilyn was known for her gentle nature, warm smile, and willingness to listen, making everyone feel valued and loved.
Marilyn is survived by her five daughters and their spouses, Gay (Larry) Coombs, Kathy (Richard) Griffin, Diane (Randy) Gardner, Mary (Jeff) West, and Annette (Dean) Brewer; 28 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren, with 3 more on the way; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family, and her legacy of faith, service, and love will continue through generations.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Douglas Stewart; her son, Doug Stewart; her granddaughter, Alison Stewart; her parents, Merrill and Ruby Bird; and her four brothers and their spouses.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff at Applegate and Cornerstone for the compassionate care they provided, with special thanks to Annette, Melanie, Andrea, Lori, Wendy, Chaplin Dan and Naomi. Marilyn will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for her unwavering faith, tender heart, and lifelong example of Christlike love.
